During a 2022 residency at Vonk Studios in Genk / Belgium, artists collaboratively mapped the city, each employing unique methods and media. The culmination was a group exhibition at C-Mine, the former coal mines, previously showcased by Tim Burton.
Exploring Genk's mining history, I delved into data, uncovering statistics like nationality diversity and mining-related deaths. These data points formed the basis for repetitive patterns in my works, comprising a single piece, a series of three, and an installation. Materials such as bent wood, plaster, mirrors, and cut wood sheets were utilized for this “DATA MINING“ project. A challenge was creating small works that didn't get lost in the space while emphasizing specific (negative) conditions, aiming to draw the audience closer to the depicted realities.
